Biography


YIANNIS HADJILOIZOU is a global ambassador for peace, inspiring betterment of the humankind by spreading the universal message of love and peace through redefined performances of exceptional works of Classical Music, and further bridging it with other types of Music and Artists of varied backgrounds as a means of encouraging intercultural dialogue, understanding, and acceptance.

A conductor, pianist, and composer of international presence, Hadjiloizou has collaborated with leading institutions including the United Nations, UNICEF, UNESCO, the European Commission, the Vatican, and the Red Cross. His performances span major concert halls, historic landmarks, and community settings worldwide, reflecting his commitment to accessibility and cultural connection through music. He gained widespread recognition following his 2019 Carnegie Hall debut conducting Mahler's Symphony No. 2, which received critical acclaim. Known for his expressive style, he approaches music as a transformative force capable of uniting and inspiring audiences across cultures.

Born in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1976 into a musical family, he trained in the United States, earning multiple degrees in piano performance, conducting, theory, and musicology, culminating in a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University. A cancer survivor, he credits this experience with deepening his sense of purpose. Hadjiloizou is founder and artistic director of the Athens Philharmonic and president of the Cyprus Academy of Music. He also founded the Hadjiloizou Benevolent Foundation for the Arts, Culture & Peace. In addition to conducting, he composes for orchestras, film, and theatre, and mentors young musicians while expanding the reach of classical music worldwide.
